After much anticipation, Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA along with Macon Beer Company and Riverwatch Brewery held the First Pint Pour event this past Friday. In the weeks leading up to the event, raffle tickets were sold for the opportunity to buy the first pint of beer once the new laws go into effect on September1st.
Two lucky winners were drawn from the raffle, one in Macon and one in Augusta. In addition to having the honor of purchasing the first pint the winners also received a Chef's dinner for eight at Edgar's Grille and Edgar's Bistro. All proceeds from the event benefit Goodwill's job training and placement programs.
The event was created to celebrate and commemorate the passing of new beer laws in Georgia. For many years, Georgia breweries were only able to provide samples of beer as part of their facility tours. The new law that went into effect 9/01 changes that. Georgia breweries are now able to sell their beer at their facilities for not only on-premise consumption, but visitors can now purchase some to take home --288 ounces any given day to be exact! The new law loosens regulations that required the state’s breweries and distilleries to distribute their products through wholesalers. Middle Georgia and the CSRA has become a thriving food.
This is good news for local breweries like Macon Beer Company and Riverwatch, creating a better experience for brewery guests because visitors who like their brew can now take a little piece of Georgia home with them!
Middle Georgia and the CSRA has become a thriving food destination. Our leaders are committed to ensuring Georgia remains a great state for local breweries to prosper and this new law will help local economies benefit from the industry’s steady growth.
